EWC Executive Director Ana Perona-Fjeldstad and Senior Adviser Caroline Gebara met with representatives from relevant stakeholders in the education sector in Morocco to get better acquainted with needs and perspectives in the country. Among them they were public officials from the Ministry of Education; an office from the Economic, Social and Environment Council (CESE); and representatives from international organisations such as UNESCO, UNDP and the Council of Europe Rabat office.
EWC had also the opportunity to discuss possibilities for cooperation with the Euromed Fes University and the International University of Rabat as well as with representatives from civil society organisations such as Education for All, Foundation Zakoura and Foundation Tamkine all working with young people in rural areas of the country.
EWC also participated in the Civic Education Conference on the Role of Civic Education for Social Cohesion in Casablanca, organized by NACE (Networking Arab Civic Education). The event gathered 200 participants from the MENA region, Europe and other regions to discuss key issues such as the influence of arts and culture on civic education, migration and refugee dynamics as well as to strengthen cooperation among actors.
Over all, the visit was a very fruitful experience, with deep discussions about the promotion of citizenship and tolerance of diversity in the education system.
We are very grateful to the Norwegian Embassy in Rabat for facilitating our visit!
