A team from the 2015 School for Democracy organized an environment youth camp where kids improved their English at the same time as they built skills to become active democratic citizens.
“We planned this project during the School for Democracy. To carry it out we didn’t need a lot of money, only energy”, says English teacher Inna Chekman from the secondary school Monastyryshche Lyceum Erudite.
Her helpers in the project were four volunteer students, fellow School for Democracy alum Anna Lysak and Anna Matushko, Diana Kudymenko and Tania Nikitina.
30 kids from 3rd-7th grade spent 7 days at the camp with several environmental activities aimed at developing English speaking skills and promoting leadership, democratic citizenship and volunteerism.
Among many activities the children marched to the local education department to encourage them to recycle paper and dispose of batteries in a safe way, they coloured their own t-shirts and learned first aid.
