Parents more involved

“I like it when my mum and dad come to school”, a girl from 6th grade said. A Regional Summer Academy project was applied in Makedonitissa B’ Primary School in Nicosia, having an impact on increasing participation, cooperation and involvement of parents.

Parents got more positive to collaborating with teachers and showed more respect for the school and the teachers’ work. That was a result of the implementation of the project “Living in respect … Cooperate and accept”, after participating at the 2014 Regional Summer Academy in Montenegro.

Parents’ participation was a focus area of the academy team as one of the members; Charalambos Constantinou was a parent representative. At the end, 45 parents took active part in the project. The collaboration actually saved the day when it became clear that there was no money to design board games. The students suggested that parents and teachers should volunteer to draw floor games in the central yard, instead of board games as it was planned in the action plan, and so they did.

“I’m very happy when I participate in voluntary work for our school. I know that any kind of voluntary work will have positive effect on my child’s education”, a father said.
