The Slovak and Czech Regional Academy

The Slovak and Czech Regional Academy: "Building Inclusive School Environments for All" promotes Human Rights Education in the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic.


What: A whole school approach training program to promote human rights education in the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic.

For: Teams of teachers, their school heads and representatives of NGOs.

How: Online preparatory tasks followed by in-person training (2 – 6 November 2016). Systematic follow-up of local actions (November 2016 – April 2017). Evaluation (May – June 2017).

Result: Local action involving colleagues, students and other partners.

Organized by: The National Institute for Education in the Slovak Republic, the Council of Europe, the European Wergeland Centre, the Methodology and Pedagogy Centre, National Institute for Certified Educational Measurements, Open Society Foundation, Natonal Institute for Education of the Czech Republic.

Ms Gebara is a Senior Adviser at the European Wergeland Center and leading the Regional Summer Academy program. She has long-standing experiences in education, in particular in human rights education. She has managed and been engaged in various capacity building programs in Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East developed under the framework of the League of Arab States, the EU and the Ministry of Development Germany. Her work addressed issues of professional development of educators, youth participation and HRE in post-conflict settings. She is a member of the CoE Consultative Group on HRE for Young People. She holds a MA in Social Science and Human Rights from Berlin University.
