Since its establishment, Ana Perona-Fjeldstad is the Executive Director of the European Wergeland Centre, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Centre.

Perona-Fjeldstad is a lawyer (Córdoba State University, Argentina) with a MA in International Relations from the Latin American School of Social Sciences (FLACSO). She has been working in Education for the last 20 years. From 1994-2009 she worked at the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), a global NGO gathering Higher Education Institutions active in the field of open, online and distance learning, holding several positions up to Assistant Secretary General. She was engaged in capacity building projects in Asia, Africa and Europe developed under the framework of UNESCO, The World Bank and EU programmes, mostly addressing issues of access to education. Previously she was adviser at the Chamber of Representatives (Córdoba), working also in research at FLACSO-Buenos Aires focusing on the integration process between Argentina and Brazil.

Lars M. Gudmundson

Lars Gudmundson is responsible for the EWCs capacity building programmes and projects. He coordinates the Centre’s activities in line with the strategic priorities of the EWC Board and the policies of the Council of Europe and Norway.

Gudmundson has extensive experience in educational policy-making from working on several white papers, strategy plans and other policy documents for the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research. He was project manager for the Ministry’s project aiming to coordinate and revise all online information channels and resources for the national education authorities. Mr. Gudmundson has also acted as secretary for the government expert committee which suggested a new legal objective for the educational system in Norway, writing the expert report to the Parliament. As adviser for the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, Gudmundson was responsible for coordinating cross-curricular issues in the development of the new national curriculum in Norway for primary through secondary school including vocational schools.

Gudmundson has also worked in publishing, and holds a Master's degree in political science and history of ideas from the University of Oslo, Norway. He has been part of the EWC since 2009.

Øystein Sassebo Bryhni

Øystein Bryhni is responsible for the management of EWCs public relations and other information activities. He has the editorial responsibility for the centre’s web pages and other online resources as well as written publications.

Bryhni has a Master of Arts in International Affairs from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, a Bachelor of Science in International History from the London School of Economics and a degree in Journalism from the Oslo University College. He has previously been Head of Communications at Norwegian People’s Aid and a journalist at the foreign news desk of the Norwegian News Agency NTB.

Iryna Sabor

Iryna Sabor is responsible for the EWC's projects in Ukraine. She holds a Master's degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Oslo (Norway) and a Master's in International Economic Relations from the University of Lviv (Ukraine). She has earlier served in the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was posted at the Embassy of Ukraine in Norway.

Caroline Gebara

Caroline Gebara is Senior Adviser at the EWC, and leading the Regional Summer Academy program. She has long-standing experiences in education, in particular in human rights education. She has managed and been engaged in various capacity building programs in Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East developed under the framework of the League of Arab States, the EU and the Ministry of Development Germany. Her work addressed issues of professional development of educators, youth participation and HRE in post-conflict settings. She is a member of the CoE Consultative Group on HRE for Young People. She holds a MA in Social Science and Human Rights from Berlin University.

Kjersti Klette is responsible for the Centre’s financial affairs and administration. She also supports other EWC employees and partners in the development and implementation of projects and other initiatives.

Klette has an MSc in Management from the University of Edinburgh Business School, and a Bachelor in general teaching from Oslo and Akershus University College (now Oslo Met). Before coming to the EWC in 2009, she worked for the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research, and the Directorate of Education

Valentina Papeikiene is responsible for the programme "Practicing Citizenship" which envisages a series of trainings for teachers and education professionals of the Russian Federation.

Papeikiene holds a Master's degree in Business Management of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Lithuania, and has long-term experience of managing and facilitating various European mobility and capacity building projects in higher education. Prior to her employment at the EWC, she worked as the Head of International Programmes Group at the International Relations Office of the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Lithuania.

Ingrid Aspelund is responsible for the programme "22 July and Democratic Citizenship", as well as coordinating EWC's projects related to issues such as prevention of hate speech, discrimination, and radicalization.

Aspelund has a Master's degree in International and Multicultural Education and a Bachelor's degree in Development Studies from Oslo and Akershus University College (now Oslo Met). She previously worked as a campaign advisor for the No Hate Speech Movement in Norway and was the head of Norwegian People’s Aid Solidarity Youth 2015-2017.

Jennie Holck-Clausen is a human rights expert working as an Advisor with the Nordic Programmes and Cooperation at the European Wergeland Centre. Her particular area of expertise is human rights education and capacity development programmes with a focus on National Human Rights Institutions. Prior to joining the European Wergeland Centre she worked at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law in Lund, Sweden, managing human rights projects in South Caucasus, South-East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa targeting National Human Rights Institutions, civil society and law enforcement agencies.
 
Holck-Clausen holds a Master of Laws from Lund University, Sweden with a specialisation in international human rights law.

Inga Riseth is project officer for the programme "22 July and Democratic Citizenship". She holds a Master's degree in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University of Oslo, and a bachelor in International Environmental and Development Studies from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences. From 2015 to 2017, she was political vice president and then president of the Norwegian Students’ and Academics’ International Assistance Fund (SAIH). She also holds experience from serving as a Norwegian Youth Delegate to the UN General Assembly and from working as a trainer for the United Nations Association of Norway.

Elizaveta Bagrintseva is a Project Officer for the programme “Practicing Citizenship” and the Baltic Summer Academy. She will substitute for Valentina Papeikiene in 2019, and her main responsibilities are to ensure appropriate implementation of the Programme, and to report to the donors on the results of the activities. 

Bagrintseva has a background in Contemporary History (Lomonosov Moscow State University), Law (French University College) and Comparative and International Education (University of Oslo). Previously, she worked for the Global Citizenship Education programme in UNESCO and in the academic field of International Education.

Khrystyna Chushak is Head Programme Coordinator in Ukraine for the EWC programme "Schools for Democracy: Supporting Educational Reforms in Ukraine".

Chushak also works as a research fellow affiliated with the National Academy of Science of Ukraine and holds a PhD in Political Science from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. She has been actively involved in various educational NGOs activities targeted primarily at youth, youth workers and high school teachers since the late 1990s.

Olena Shynarovska is Programme Coordinator in Ukraine for the EWC programme "Schools for Democracy: Supporting Educational Reforms in Ukraine".

Shynarovska also works as executive director of Center for Educational Initiatives in Lviv (Ukraine) since 2000. She carries out educational activities with children, young people and teachers using a non-formal learning approach. Olena holds a Master’s degree in Journalism from the National University of Lviv (Ukraine). She also studied management in Education at Poznan University of Economics and Business (Poland) in frame of Lane Kirkland Scholarship Program.

Andriy Donets is Coordinator of the National Trainers' Network of the EWC programme "Schools for democracy: Supporting Educational Reforms in Ukraine".

Donets also works as project manager at NGO Ednannia in Kyiv, Ukraine. He carries out educational activities with children and young people for 15 years using and promoting non-formal learning approach. Since 2007 Andriy cooperates as a trainer with the EU's SALTO Resource Centres and since 2011 he is a member of the trainers pool of the Youth Department of the Derectorate of Democratic Citizenship and Participation of the Council of Europe.
