The Educators' Consultation in Vienna took place within the framework of the Austrian EDC Action days.
The seminar focusing on the
International Citizenship and Civic Education Study (ICCS)was held successfully on 26st of April. It was co-organized by polis – the Austrian Centre for Citizenship Education in Schools, SORA Institute for Social Research and Consulting and the European Wergeland Centre.
The event started with a presentation of the international and Austrian ICCS findings given by Martina Zandonella (SORA). A lively discussion followed where 15 participants from school, university and research touched upon the findings’ relevance for practice in classroom and school.
The differences between the Austrian and international findings, and the question which structures and conditions (such as educational systems, didactical traditions and approaches to civic education in the different countries) might inform these differences, was a particular focus of discussion. Furthermore, the group had a look at successfully implemented strategies and approaches from other countries interviewed as part of the survey.
In the afternoon, the seminar was dedicated to interactive methods for learning and teaching civic education. A variety of methods were introduced, and participants exchanged ideas on how to use them in their daily practice.
