Training of Trainers:
Designing and Delivering
Effective Human Rights Education
Training Manual
The manual outlines a six-day workshop which aims at providing human rights educators with
the necessary tools for planning, designing, and conducting effective training-of-trainers (TOT)
workshops. The manual has been designed for use by both facilitators and participants.
Facilitators will use the manual to prepare and conduct the workshop. Participants will use the
manual as a reference tool both during and after the workshop.
The workshop is designed as a practicum for human rights education (HRE) development. It
focuses on the “how to” of designing, delivering, and evaluating human rights training, as well as
the development of a systematic approach to HRE. Participants will not only learn about
effective HRE design, they will also have the opportunity to put their learning into practice by
preparing an actual model for a human rights training session. The expectation is that
participants will use the model as a basis for developing training they will deliver within the
context of the work of their organizations.
