With sixty years of serving all Europeans, the Council of Europe is making available a kit of educational fact sheets, under the heading of “Europe is more than you think”, aimed at all secondary schools across Europe.

Democracy, social cohesion, human rights, cultural diversity … Each of these far-reaching social policy topics that lie close the heart of the Organisation are addressed in the kit. To make best educational use of the material each topic is covered by separate sets of work sheets and fact sheets, one set for teachers and one for students.

These sheets contain a range of topics for both individual work and group discussions, so that even the youngest students can come to grips with some of society’s most difficult problems. Quotations from, and biographies of, those individuals who embody fundamental European values are used to illustrate the topics.

The teachers’ fact sheets can be adapted for use in any classroom situation. They contain key ideas that will bring Europe to life in the classroom, enabling young people to play their part in building the Europe of tomorrow.
