In this report, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief focuses on the need to respect and protect freedom of religion or belief of persons belonging to religious minorities. In his conceptual observations on this issue, he emphasizes that the rights of persons belonging to religious minorities should be consistently interpreted and implemented from a human rights perspective.

This report outlines the findings of an action research project carried out by the ISD and funded by the Open Society Foundations (OSF). It describes the results of a pilot social media campaign, draws conclusions about the influence of social media on attitudes, and makes recommendations for policy makers, politicians and civil society organisations on the ways in which these technologies can be used to tackle intolerance.

Surveying over 2000 Facebook fans of Hungary’s far-Right political party Jobbik, this study finds that far from being the ‘typical angry young men’ so often portrayed in the media, the party’s supporters (or at least those signed on to the page on Facebook) are ‘young, educated, eurosceptic, pessimistic and prejudiced’.

The report focuses on the use of the internet for propagating racial hatred and violence, as well as the key issues that need to be faced to overcome such discriminatory practices.
