In 1980, the German Kultusministerkonferenz issued Recommendations for the integration of human rights education in primary and secondary schools. This study evaluates the application of these recommendations and based on a study named "UNESCO-Associated Project Schools (ASP) and Human Rights Education".

In 2007 Equitas hosted a two days International Human Rights Education Evaluation Symposium, jointly organized with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The goal was to bring together practitioners in human rights education (HRE), and to share new ideas, knowledge, and practices to effectively evaluate HRE.

This publication elucidates the debates surrounding the historical development of human rights after 1945. The authors examine a number of specific human rights, e.g. the prohibition of discrimination freedom of opinion, to consider how different historical experiences and legal traditions shaped their formulation.

The 2009 IEA study of civic and citizenship education (ICCS) investigated the ways in which young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens in modern societies. It reports on student knowledge and understanding of civics and citizenship as well as student attitudes, perceptions and activities related to civics and citizenship.

The EU-wide study "Discover the past for the future" was released by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights. It reveals that at historical sites and in schools across the EU, teaching about the Holocaust rarely includes discussion of related human rights issues.
