This publication examines the discourse and context of contemporary far-right political parties in the European Union. Parties on the contemporary far right cannot simply be dismissed, nor the issues on which they play and the arguments that they advance be ignored. Parties from this political family have made an impact to varying degrees on European politics and society in recent times. Consequently, as well as examining discourse and addressing the context of far-right emergence, the publication also focuses on other key aspects of contemporary far-right political parties in Europe, notably on their success (or otherwise) in a contemporary setting and on the challenge of contesting such parties.

This paper, held at the conference "Anti - Semitism in the past and the present" in Oslo on February 5th, 2013, investigates into semantics and discursive patterns that indicate a relation to anti-Semitic stereotypes and world views. A special attention is directed towards the mechanisms of secondary anti-Semitism and Israel-related anti-Semitism. Instead of pleading for “objective” indicators for anti-Semitism, however, the author insists on the relevance of broader contexts and existing ambiguities. The papers concludes that the competence to distinguish legitimate criticism from anti-Semitism requires not only knowledge, but skills of critical thinking and a self-reflective attitude in order to escape mechanisms of prejudice and othering.

This report presents the results of a survey of Norwegian attitudes toward Jews and other minorities. The results confirm that stereotypical notions of Jews do exist in Norwegian society.

The article advocates an interpretive approach as a way of presenting sophisticated models of culture(s), cultural transmission, cultural change, hybridity and cultural identity to replace ‘static’ models characteristic of early multicultural education. Such an approach has variously been called critical multicultural education, reflexive multicultural education, or intercultural education.
