The new handbook for teachers "Excursion to the past - teaching for the future", published by The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), emphasises the link between teaching about the Holocaust and other Nazi crimes, and teaching about human rights and democracy.

The Council of Europe Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education which was developed over a period of several years with wide consultations and is non-binding - will be an important reference point for all of Europe and will be used as a basis for the Council of Europe’s future work in this field in the coming years.

Growing up in democracy is addressed to teachers who want to integrate Education for Democratic Citizenship (EDC) and Human Rights Education (HRE) in their daily subject teaching.

This manual was developed using principles of peer education, to enable young people between the ages of 15 – 25 to teach other young people about human rights. It is designed to be a basic introduction, with age-specific activities for younger and older children. The approach stresses the practical rather than theoretical.

This toolkit was published by "Involver" a UK based organisation which helps young people to learn democracy by doing democracy – through school councils and student voice. It covers a whole range of key issues and concrete methods for school council co-ordinators.
