This four-page brochure summarises lessons learned from the "Rights Education Action Programme" (REAP) around engaging new target groups. REAP is a non-formal international human rights education initiative led by Amnesty International Norway and implemented for ten years in ten countries around the world. These lessons are: working with new target groups contributes to building a culture of human rights for all peoples; human rights education can be a successful way to engage new target groups for action on human rights issues; engaging marginalised groups through human rights education can lead to their empowerment.

This resource pack is a charter of 10 rights and a participatory methodology for using this charter; it is a series of education- and rights-based indicators organised in a survey format to enable users to capture information in a systematic manner; finally it is a compilation of the key international human rights references.

The textbook includes country reports, case studies, a toolbox for children`s rights practitioners, and an analysis of recent policy papers like the draft “COE Framework for the Development of Teacher’s Competences on Citizenship and Human Rights Education” and the draft “UN Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training”.

The conference (“Tackling poverty with Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights in Adult Learning”) textbook offers a selection of case studies, best practices and research reports throughout Europe.

This manual is for teachers and educators in Africa who work with young people both in formal and non-formal educational environments and who want to introduce human rights in their teaching practices.
