Concludes General Debate on Technical Assistance
and Capacity
Building
The Human Rights Council this afternoon
adopted the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights
Education and
Training and recommended its adoption by the General
Assembly. The Council
appointed a Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of
peaceful
assembly and of association; members of the Working Group on
the issue of discrimination against women in law and in
practice; a member of the Working Group of Experts on people
of African descent; members of the Expert Mechanism on the
rights of indigenous peoples; and elected members
of the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee. The Council
also concluded
its general debate on technical assistance and capacity
building.
In a resolution adopted without a vote, the Council adopted the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training and recommended that the General Assembly adopt it and invite Governments, agencies and organizations of the United Nations system and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations to intensify their efforts to disseminate the Declaration and to promote universal respect and understanding thereof.
