The Ministry of Education and Research and The European Wergeland Centre, together with an external sponsor, organized the inauguration event for the Centre, which took place May 28-29 2009. The event began with an official dinner on May 28th followed by a conference on the 29th.

Conference theme:

"Building Bridges: Education for Intercultural Understanding, Human Rights and Democratic Citizenship, from Policy to Practice"

Well-known keynote speakers and panelists elaborated on different aspects of the mentioned themes.
