The Council of Europe organized, in co-operation with the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (PFUR), a conference on “Universities as Actors of Intercultural Dialogue in Wider Society”, which was held in Moscow on 2-3 June 2009. The conference focused on the role of higher education in promoting intercultural dialogue in the wider society, i.e. outside the boundaries of the institution.

The EWC Executive Director, Ana Perona-Fjeldstad took part in this conference. She gave a presentation of the European Wergeland Centre and its forthcoming activities.

The conference was part of the project “The University between Humanism and Market: Redefining Its Values and Functions for the 21^st Century”, which was launched in November 2007.
