Toward Mutual Ground: Religious Education, Education, and Diversity
The Irish Centre for Religious Education hosted a one day conference at Mater Dei Institute of Education, consulting with a broad spectrum of invited guests (policy makers, providers and other interested parties) in exploring the place and role of religious education in contemporary Ireland.
The conference build on the debate about teaching of religion and beliefs presently taking place in Europe, and the presenters spoke from a variety of perspectives.

Robert Jackson, Professor of Religions and Education in the Institute of Education at the University of Warwick, and Special Adviser at the EWC, was the main keynote speaker giving a presentation on
"Why Education about Religions and Beliefs? European Policy Recommendations and Research" He focused on the dissemination of the Council of Europe recommendation and the issues it raises for an education system like that of Ireland.
The Irish Minister of Education, Ruairi Quinn also gave a lecture.
