IAU 2009 International Conference

EWC contributes to conference on Culture, Civilization and the World
The University of Oslo organizes the conference "Culture, Civilization and the World – the Semantics of Globalization" from Januar 25-26. EWC's Research Coordinator Dr. Claudia Lenz will be giving a lecture on: "Citizenship – an ambigram in the context of national and global interpretations". -

EWC meets Norwegian Council for Teacher Education
The EWC participated on April 29 in the Norwegian Council for Teacher Education meeting. With regard to the "Internationalization of Higher Education" Claudia Lenz highlighted several ways of how students can serve as bridge builders between formal education, research and civil societies to foster a culture of democracy and human rights. -

The Council of Europe Pestalozzi Programme workshop focuses on the significance of values (religious as well as non-religious) within school communities shaped by (increasing) socio-cultural diversity. The topic will be approached from different perspectives - mainly related to practice through sessions with experienced trainers from a broad variety of institutions. -

Democratic governance of schools
The 2. Pestalozzi Seminar in Oslo this year will take place November 16-20, focusing on the theme "Democratic governance of schools". The target group for this conference is heads of schools, deputy heads or administrators of schools. Deadline for application: October 9. Travel (within Europe) and accommodation costs will be covered by the Council of Europe and the European Wergeland Centre. -

COMENIUS project on teaching about historical memories has started!
The project "Developing Competence-Oriented Teaching on Historical Memories" introduces the complexity of public memory and remembrance into history teaching at schools. Dr. Claudia Lenz from the EWC is one of the organizers.
