The United Nations celebrations of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 will this year include the staging of the first World Human Rights Moot Court Competition.

The Human Rights Council Advisory Committee continued its discussion on a Draft Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training on January 25 during its fourth session in Geneva. Among other issues, the role of youth as a substantive factor promoting human rights education and training was discussed.

On December 10, 2009, the 61st anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted resolution A/RES/64/82 to mark the end of the International Year of Human Rights Learning.

The "Forum on Universality of Human Rights" will be held in Oslo 21-22 October, organized by the INGOs at the Council of Europe, and the EWC.

The 23rd Council of Europe Standing Conference of Ministers of Education provided an opportunity to discuss the role of education, more specifically, teachers in fostering sustainable democratic societies in Europe.

The international conference "Educating for Human Rights, Peace and Intercultural Dialogue" will be held from 4-6 November in Sydney. It will examine the contribution of human rights culture to the good functioning of the civil society; highlight key trends and achievements in human rights education in particular, and aim to secure greater commitment for future human rights education.

The Warsaw Summit in 2005 recommended the Secretariat of the Council of Europe (CoE) to set up a resource centre on intercultural education.
