HREA has launched a new web portal to promote understanding and application of a human rights-based approach to schooling, where you can find a wealth of resources on this topic.

The theme and main aim of the 2009 Lisbon Forum have been to promote the creation of a culture of human rights, through “quadrilogue” action, i.e. governments, local and regional authorities and civil society. This year the Forum took place on 13-14 of November.

A report on the discussions on HRE in the UN Human Rights Council 12th session (14 Sep - 2 Oct) has been published. The Council decided on the focus for the second phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education.

This study was prepared within the framework of the Religion and Democracy in Europe Initiative of the Network of European Foundations (NEF). It provides an overview of the diversity of approaches in place in the European Union as far as teaching about religions in schools is concerned.

Professor Robert Jackson, Editor of the British Journal of Religious Education, published by Routledge, is delighted to announce that the journal has been selected for inclusion in both the Social Sciences Citation Index® (SSCI) and the Arts & Humanities Citation Index® (A&HCI) from 2008 onwards.

In cooperation with the Council of Europe, the EWC will host two Pestalozzi Seminars during autumn 2009. The first seminar will take place September 21-25, 2009. The Pestalozzi Programme organizes training activities for education professionals from all over Europe.

Both national and international media has shown a great interest in the European Wergeland Centre. Various newspapers, journals and online publications have published interviews and information about the Centre.

The inauguration event marked the opening of the European Wergeland Centre. The Norwegian Royal Family, represented by HRH Crown Princess Mette Marit, attended the opening, as well as ministers, politicians and high level experts.

A new resource using real life stories to teach English and human rights awareness has been launched in Canberra by Federal Attorney-General, the Hon Robert McClelland.
