The inauguration event marked the opening of the European Wergeland Centre. The Norwegian Royal Family, represented by HRH Crown Princess Mette Marit, attended the opening, as well as ministers, politicians and high level experts.

Both national and international media has shown a great interest in the European Wergeland Centre. Various newspapers, journals and online publications have published interviews and information about the Centre.

Brian Pearce, newly retired director of the Interfaith Network for the UK, was July 15th awarded the honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the Warwick University degree congregation.

Recently EWC Executive Director Ana Perona-Fjeldstad and Special Adviser Gunnar Mandt met with the Polish Deputy Minister of National Education, Krzysztof Stanowski in Warsaw, Poland to discuss the possibility of organizing a summer academy in Warsaw, a joint project between the Polish Ministry of National Education, the National In-Service Teacher Training Centre in Poland and the EWC.

Council of Europe Secretary General, Thorbjørn Jagland has signed an agreement with the London-based MBI Al Jaber Foundation, in order to develop cooperation on Intercultural Dialogue in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The 2. Pestalozzi Seminar in Oslo this year will take place November 16-20, focusing on the theme "Democratic governance of schools". The target group for this conference is heads of schools, deputy heads or administrators of schools. Deadline for application: October 9. Travel (within Europe) and accommodation costs will be covered by the Council of Europe and the European Wergeland Centre.

27 school heads and other educational professionals from 17 different countries were gathered in Oslo last week to discuss, practice and be trained in democratic school governance, in the 2nd seminar cooperation between the EWC and the Council of Europe Pestalozzi program.

The European Wergeland Center in cooperation with Oslo University College is organizing the seminar "Religious Diversity in Intercultural Education - policies and practices" on the 2nd of March, 2010. The seminar is open to everyone.
