The United Nations celebrations of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 will this year include the staging of the first World Human Rights Moot Court Competition.

This year’s start to the academic calendar will be a very special one for a group of students in Moscow. Three of Moscow’s Universities have signed a formal agreement with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to introduce a new academic specialization at the Master’s level in human rights studies.

Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, a grouping of 11 African nations, have taken an historic step forward with the establishment of a Regional Center which aims to strengthen good governance, democracy and human rights.

The dinner at Akershus Castle was followed by a conference at Gamle Logen, Friday 29th May. High Officials attended this conference. It was an honor to have HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit present during the Opening Session, but also national and international ministers, politicians, ambassadors and high level experts participated at the conference.

A report on the discussions on HRE in the UN Human Rights Council 12th session (14 Sep - 2 Oct) has been published. The Council decided on the focus for the second phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education.

The Global On-line Consultation is a participatory process for all stakeholders of drafting a plan of action for the second phase of the World Programme for Human Rights Education (WPHRE). Among others, teacher training and higher education institutions are invited to contribute. Submit your contribution by March 28, 2010.

"Human Rights Education in the School Systems of Europe, Central Asia and North America: A Compendium of Good Practice" is now published. This publication collects 101 exemplary practices from Europe, North America and Central Asia in the area of human rights education, education for democratic citizenship, and education for mutual respect and understanding.

The inauguration event marked the opening of the European Wergeland Centre. The Norwegian Royal Family, represented by HRH Crown Princess Mette Marit, attended the opening, as well as ministers, politicians and high level experts.

The 7th International Human Rights Forum Lucerne (IHRF) will discuss the topic "Human Rights and Pervasive Computing"on May 18th and 19th, 2010.
