The EWC has launched Share & Connect, an expert database for researchers, teacher trainers, teachers, PhD-students, and other professionals working in education for democratic citizenship, human rights and intercultural understanding. Recently EWC Executive Director Ana Perona-Fjeldstad and Special Adviser Gunnar Mandt met with the Polish Deputy Minister of National Education, Krzysztof Stanowski in Warsaw, Poland to discuss the possibility of organizing a summer academy in Warsaw, a joint project between the Polish Ministry of National Education, the National In-Service Teacher Training Centre in Poland and the EWC.

The course will introduce the international field of human rights education (HRE), including presentations of programming approaches, teaching and learning resources, and related theory. The course is intended for educators and trainers working in both the formal and non-formal sectors.

The workshop "Dialogue about religion – Integrating students with and without religious identification" is meant for teacher trainers, teacher students and others who are interested in the topic of religion in education. It will take place on September 14, 2010, from 9.15 – 14.30.

The Summer Academy ’Democracy at School’ was held July 10-17, 2010 in Sulejówek, Poland. Teachers, head teachers and NGO representatives from 7 countries joined the Academy. During the week, the participants got to know tools for the classroom, whole school strategies, and drafted an action plan with steps for their own school.

The Council of Europe Pestalozzi Programme workshop focuses on the significance of values (religious as well as non-religious) within school communities shaped by (increasing) socio-cultural diversity. The topic will be approached from different perspectives - mainly related to practice through sessions with experienced trainers from a broad variety of institutions.

The initial findings of the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study - the largest study ever conducted on civic education in secondary schools - were presented this week.

The Summer Academy “Democracy at School” in Poland is organized by the EWC in cooperation with The Polish Ministry of National Education, the Polish Centre for Education Development, and the Council of Europe. It will take place from July 10-17 and will bring together headteachers, teachers and representatives from parents associations and NGOs from up to 13 countries.
